November 1st: The Feast of All Saints
From the blog Cross of Laekencomes a prayer for today's feast - the Feast of All Saints - with an illustration of one of my favourite works of art - Fra Angelico's magnificent carving of the saints in Heaven.
Gareth - thanks for mentioning this. In this day and age, Nov. 1 is generally regarded as just the ‘day after Halloween’, when we’re all recovering from eating too much candy – LOL!
The Anglo-Catholic church (where I serve as acolyte) marked the day with High Mass and a special procession around the interior with everyone chanting the ‘Litany of the Saints’. It was very moving.
Gareth Russell is the author of four works of non-fiction, including the critically-acclaimed biography of Queen Catherine Howard, "Young and Damned and Fair", and two novels set in his native Belfast.
Thank you very much for the link. Happy Feast Day!
