Marie-Antoinette's ballgown re-created


Via Tea at Trianon comes news of this Italian recreation of one of the gown's made for Queen Marie-Antoinette by her so-called "minister of fashion," Madame Rose Bertin, who was credited in the September 2006 edition of American Vogue with basically creating the concept of haute couture. The gown (above) was worn by the young queen during her period as the acknowledged leader of French high society in the 1770s. For a look at Marie-Antoinette's fashion sense, click here.
